 introduction

First clay - the constant earth - informed by water, transformed by fire.

Then burnt wood, bone, rusted metal picked up along the ever-changing river.

Scrap copper from the junkyard;
a great-grandmother’s worn linen for wrapping.

Last, pure pigments laid down in translucent layers.

Redefined, these touch upon, without explaining, the mystery of what it is to be alive.
